Not since Istanbul have I had such a perfectly-baked pidé (traditional pizza) with an ayran (fruit milkshake), nor have I feasted on a plate of hot akçabat köftesi (meatballs) with just the right amount of seasoning. It might not look like much, but this authentic Turkish spot in Anjos ticked all the boxes when it came to flavor, service, and tradition. Sure, you could go in for a kebab to go, but why would you when you could sit and stay a while, and follow up your meal with a Turkish coffee and a sigara borek (pastry cigar)? It’s clear from this modest kitchen and bare-bones dining room that they save their creative energies for the food itself. All that’s missing is the backgammon and Bosphorus.
