Dependable Portuguese food joint favored by locals for lunch and groups for dinner
This little stretch in front of the French embassy has its fair share of hip young restaurants, many of which are quite good, but Pintas is a bit different. Don’t mind the seemingly cramped atmosphere — this place serves up big flavor with big warmth from its no-nonsense staff. It’s very popular with the local office workers, and for good reason: Pintas’ Portuguese cuisine doesn’t go too fancy, but stays true to delivering the best of traditional ingredients served with just the right amount of flair but with no fuss about the fact. Its specials, unlike many places that offer them, are actually special, and the wine list here makes up with quality for what it lacks in sheer numbers. You’re also more likely to get a seat within a few minutes than at many of the neighboring restaurants with lines out the door.
