Not great news for anyone expecting to update their residency status in Portugal any time soon: the staff of Agência para as Migrações (the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum, the agency that replaced the troubled SEF) are planning to be on strike.
Until the end of the year.
“The National Federation of Unions of Workers in Public and Social Functions (FNSTFPS) called for a strike at overtime at the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), due to lack of human resources,” Lusa reports.
The strike starts on August 22.
To imagine what’s going to happen, consider that AIMA has about 400,000 pending residency cases before it and, even before the strike started, immigrants have been coming to AIMA offices as early as 03h30 to secure a spot in the line.
We wish everyone luck and patience, and remind you to enjoy the good inexpensive coffee and/or wine…
