A new take on the tasca (watering-hole), Povo promotes emerging fadistas with its Artist Residency program and serves tasty tapas in the form of soups, sandwiches, salads, and seafood. The octopus salad is not to be missed, neither is the opportunity to try the traditional Caldo Verde Soup. Povo is located on Cais do Sodré’s “pink street” between the back entrance of Pensão Amor, a former brothel-turned cocktail lounge, and Musicbox, one of the better places to dance. In a city where you usually have to pay for a Fado performance or at least suffer through a table minimum, this stone-vaulted eatery serves up more than just great food, it gives Fado lovers and newbies alike the chance to snack on Lisbon’s musical delicacy. Fado: Starting at 9:30pm Tuesday through Thursday, and Sunday.
