Reflector #41: Prince – “77 Beverley Park”

Shamelessly far-fetched again here, as “77 Beverly Park,” off the triple album Lotus Flower released in 2009, has nothing to do with Portugal whatsoever. But it offers a good excuse. The melodic motive of this track is played on what could vaguely evoke a Portuguese guitar underneath many layers. And it is not entirely surprising, since the immortal Prince (or the artist formerly known as ?) had one on display in his study at Paisley Park. Probably not least because of his personal friendship with fadista Ana Moura, which originated when Prince once stumbled upon one of her records and made it his design to meet her. Mutual fans, they have made guest appearances at each other’s gigs, like this one at Super Bock Super Rock festival in 2010.
