It might not seem like you’re allowed to go inside, but ring the bell at the door to the left of the main entrance of the Cais do Sodré train station and you’ll be promptly buzzed in. Go up the stairs and talk to the receptionist about visiting the terrace bar and follow the signs up to the top deck. A huge space awaits with several different sitting and dancing sections (with a pool, albeit of the above-ground variety) surrounding a tiki-style bar at the center. The drinks are well prepared and relatively inexpensive for a rooftop bar with a view of the Tejo, but perhaps it’s because of the hidden nature of the space. You might be in the company of hippies and a younger alternative crowd, but no matter. Everyone is friendly and just looking to party. Try the caipirinha on a hot evening but warning: if you don’t like it so sweet, request that they go light on the sugar.
