US winemaker Laely Heron said it would be “a slap in the face if they change this” and that she’s going to look to invest outside of Portugal if the program is shuttered, in light of Prime Minister Antonio Costa saying earlier this month that the visa scheme — which offers a path to Portuguese citizenship for as little as a €350,000 investment — “is no longer justified,” according to Bloomberg.
Portugal has been focused as of late on its new digital nomad visa, which went into effect on Oct. 30 and allows remote workers and other freelancers earning roughly €2800 a month or more the ability to get Portuguese residency, which in turn allows them to apply for citizenship in about five years.
