José Saramago. You've likely heard the name. Like his sentences, he's big, here in Portugal and outside of Portugal too. And, if you like him, know nothing about him, or, like me, are simply struggling, for years now, to finish at least one of his books, then maybe a visit to the museum that bears […]

In today's crazy world, few things perpetuate such heated debates and awkward dinner conversations — not to mention the bloody onslaught of World War 3 — like Israel and Palestine. The Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East (MPPM), a local, self-explanatory, nonprofit organization, invites you to […]

"Inside us there is something that has no name, that something is what we are." Jose Saramago. Silence and memory are mutually respectful friends, if one reads enough Saramago. SILENCE AND MEMORY - 23 Nobel Prizes in Literature ("Exposição Silêncio e Memória - 23 Prémios Nobel de Literatura") is a multimedia art exhibit consisting of […]

Search the amazing central Lisbon skyline for a few seconds in any direction and you'll inevitably come across peculiar little patches of green treetops high in the distance. They hover over the city like puffy wigs adorning shady, secluded little cliff-like parks. Wander around Lisbon's hills long enough and you will inevitably find yourself underneath […]

There may or may not be punctuation involved...you'll just have to go find out for yourself. From the organizers: The José Saramago Foundation was born because a few men and women from different countries decided one day that they could not leave on the shoulders of one man, the writer José Saramago, the baggage that […]
