Web Summit Coming Back to Lisbon as In-Person Event This Year

After going fully online in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Paddy Cosgrave's conference for smart people will descend upon Portugal's capital once again.

We missed out on a ton of music festivals this summer thanks to the coronavirus, but lovers of technology and smart engaging monologues, rejoice, the Web Summit is coming to Lisbon live and in-person once again this November.

Paddy Cosgrave’s tech conference, which moved from Dublin to Lisbon in 2016 in return for tens of millions of euros, was hosted entirely online last year as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

But this year, the conference is being held in person once again, from Nov. 1 to 4, at Altice Arena and FIL in Lisbon’s Expo neighborhood, the organizers announced

If previous numbers are anything to go by, expect about 70,000 participants this year.

For those of you who need to get tickets and don’t know how to get free ones, note that they’re going up in price by 25% at midnight from Aug. 12 to Aug. 13. They’re currently starting at…

And this is the early bird special…

€625 euros, or €508 excluding VAT.

That’s for the exhibition floor only. If you also want “curated content across 30+ topics” and a “searchable attendee list,” you’ll have to pay €50 more.

However, if you need “Executive lounge access,” among other perks, that’ll set you back €4,850, and if you need “Forum lounge access” — and who doesn’t these days — well, ma’am, you’ll need to upgrade to the “Chairperson” ticket, which is going for a cool €24,850 until midnight tonight.

You can expect to hobnob with the comedian Amy Poehler, presented on the Web Summit website as “Founder, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls,” as well as the COO of Reddit, the founder of Kosmos, the president of Microsoft, the CEOs of Tinder, Deliveroo, and Tripadvisor, the head of Alexa at Amazon, the CEO of Vice Media and, of course, Lisbon’s mayor and Portugal’s prime minister and president, among other influencers.

But we’d go just for Brittany Kaiser, the former business development director for Cambridge Analytica, appearing at Web Summit as “Founder, Own Your Data.”

Also, Lisbon is apparently no longer big enough to contain all the wonders of the Web Summit: in 2022, there will also be a Web Summit Tokyo, in September, followed by another Web Summit Lisbon, in November.
