Whats on in Lisbon in June 2025

June in Lisbon is one long, joyful blur of sardines, street parties, pop concerts, and cultural mashups.

June in Lisbon means one thing: the Festas de Lisboa are in full, gloriously chaotic swing. What started as a tribute to Saint Anthony (patron saint of lost things and matchmaking miracles) has morphed into a month-long citywide blowout featuring neighborhood arraiais, sardine worship, and bifana-fueled revelry.

But don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just about knocking back beers with your neighbors under some multicolored streamers — though there’s plenty of that, too. The city transforms into a sprawling stage for parades, free concerts, weddings (16 of them, to be exact), and a slew of other happenings that are loud, colorful, and unapologetically Lisbon. We’ve rounded up some of the best things to check out this June—yes, even the ones that require leaving your own freguesia.

Keen to learn more about why the city is about to go into full-blown party mode and how you can survive it? You can do that here.

May 30 – June 29 | FESTAS POPULARES ARRAIAS | Various | FREE

So, what are arraias (and the singular arraial)? Basically, they are Lisbon’s answer to a block party—only with more sardines, louder music, and a lot more dancing in the street. During the Festas de Santo António, neighborhoods transform into lively hubs filled with grilled food stalls, plastic cups of sangria, colorful streamers, and music, mostly pimba, that keeps going way past bedtime. It’s messy, joyful, and wildly local—no fancy tickets needed, just show up hungry and ready to party. See the full list of parties and popular acts per neighborhood here.

May 30 – June 1 | COMPETITION | Marchas Populares | MEO Arena | 21h | 6€

The Marchas Populares are a glitter-soaked showdown between bairros. Neighborhoods spend months prepping themed costumes, choreography, and homemade props for this massive dance-off and later, a parade down Avenida da Liberdade. These performances at the MEO Arena are where the official competition happens—this is where judges score the choreography, costumes, music, and overall vibe to determine the winning neighborhood. Find when your freguesia takes the stage here and go watch them perform for the coveted title! Get tickets here.

June 1 – September 22 | ART EXHIBIT | Paula Rego: Between Your Teeth | 10h – 18 Sat: to 21h | 8€ – 14€

Two generations, two continents, nearly a hundred works. Between Your Teeth brings together Paula Rego and Adriana Varejão in a raw, resonant dialogue where violence — political and personal — threads through every canvas. At the heart of it is Rego’s rarely-seen The First Mass in Brazil, setting the tone for a show that revisits colonialism, womanhood, and power across time and territory. This isn’t just an exhibition. It’s a confrontation. Note: Closed on Tuesdays! Check out the website here.

June 1 | THEATER + CLASSICAL MUSIC | Pasteis da Nata for Bach | Cinema São Jorge | 16h | 7,50

As part of the Around Classic music festival, this family-friendly show is poised to present Bach as you’ve never seen him— in a powdered wig and All-Star high tops. Attempting to compose on the harpsichord for his 20 children (yep, he was a busy guy), Bach must power up on pasteis to get the job done. Worth a try, I’d say. Check out the festival lineup here and get tickets to watch Bach binge on custard tarts here.

June 7 | CULTURE FEST | Korean Culture Festival | Palacio Pimenta Gardens | 10h – 18h | FREE

This all-ages fest brings traditional dance, music, taekwondo demos, and the high-energy K-Pop World Festival Portugal competition. There’ll be hands-on workshops (registration required) for everything from minhwa painting and maedeup knot-tying to K-beauty and Korean cooking. You can even try on a hanbok and test your skills at traditional games. The full program will be released here soon, so stay tuned.

June 10 – 21 | BOOK FAIR | Lisbon Book Fair | Marques de Pombal | FREE

Tired of music and mayhem yet? Lisbon’s biggest book bash takes over Parque Eduardo VII once again, turning the hill by Marquês de Pombal into a maze of stalls, stories, and serious deals. Check out what workshops and whatnot are going on here.

June 10 | JAM SESSION | Prisma Estudio | 19h – 23h | 5€ Membership fee

Come check out this space meant for musicians, amateurs, tinkerers, and listeners to come together and co-create something in real time. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill or style. June 12 | WEDDINGS | The Weddings of Saint Anthony | 11h30 and 14h | FREE

Sixteen couples, aged between 27 and 50, from various parishes in Lisbon, come together in the city’s most popular mass wedding, followed by fanfare and maybe a ride around the city in a classic car parade. The civil ceremony will take place at 11h30 am in the Town Hall and the Catholic wedding will take place at 14h in the Lisbon Cathedral if you’re into that sort of thing.

June 12 | PARADE | Marchas Populares | Avenida Liberdade | 21h | FREE

The famous popular dance troops representing each Lisbon neighborhood will take to the streets to perform for the public. This bejeweled and feathered spectacle down Avenida Liberdade is a celebration that brings every corner of the city together to cheer on their home teams, pound a few Super Bocks, and shake some moneymakers. June 17 | ORCHESTRAL CONCERT | Gulbenkian | 20h | FREE

The Gulbenkian Orchestra is back at the Lisbon Festival, this time led by German maestro Clemens Schuldt, serving up a rich mix of sounds that’s anything but one-note. To highlight the irreverent approach of this concert, they’ve named the program “One Damn Thing After Another” so, there’s that. Expect a mix of modern composers with old favorites like Strauss, Grieg, Puccini, Weber, and Barber.  Get the full set list here. Tickets are subject to availability at the Gulbenkian box office two hours before the show. Max two tickets per person.

June 22 | FARMERS’ MARKET | LX Factory | 10h – 18h | FREE

Every Sunday, LX Factory swaps design for dirt with LX Rural, a farmers’ market bringing Portugal’s countryside to the city. The good stuff goes fast. Get more information here.
