Wintertime in Lisboa

The holidays may have come to an end, but Lisbon is still in celebration mode. All of the city’s squares host markets, bumper car tracks, carousels, and even ice skating rinks. Luckily, the weather this year means you can do all of these things and not get wet (unless you want to go surfing).

Feira Popular de Natal, Entrecampos

Each street in the center is transformed come winter time. They are carefully decorated with over-the-top lights in a variety of colors, shapes, and placements, so just walking around aimlessly with the smell of roasting castanhas (chestnuts) is a pleasure.

Did I mention the fruitcake? Lisbon does it right. During the holidays, the Bolo Rei (king cake) is all the rage. You can even find free samples at most Pingo Doce supermercados
if you’re curious. It tastes a lot less like a Christmas tree than it looks.

There’s lots to see and do in the wintertime, well, except maybe laundry.  Check out our calendar for specific details.
