Yesterday Marked the Largest Daily Rise in Covid Cases Since February

Cases rise as lockdown eases with biggest single-day jump in more than 3 months.

Cases of the coronavirus in Portugal rose by 1,350 in 24 hours, which makes yesterday the largest single-day increase since late February, according to Reuters. This jump brought the total number of cases in Portugal up to 860,365.

The vast majority of these cases (69%) were reported in or around Lisbon, which is being left behind as other areas of the country have restrictions loosened. Ministers are again meeting today to discuss next steps.

Wednesday also saw a further six people died of Covid, which raises the total number of deaths to 17,055 since the start of the pandemic.
